Arkansas River Reopened!
Excellent news for all thrill seekers and adrenaline junkies. Arkansas Rivers has been reopened and it’s ready to provide exciting adventures for everyone. So, grab your life jacket and get ready to paddle.
Since late June, – The Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office, Colorado Parks and Wildlife Office and the Pueblo Fire Department, closed some sections of the Arkansas River to inner-tubing, boarding, non-whitewater boats, and swimming due to the swift running water and dangers it presented.
Nonetheless, last Monday July 12th, Colorado Parks and Wildlife Office, published on their homepage, the great news that each of agencies mentioned before, reopened the Arkansas River for commercial purposes.
According to the Arkansas River Outfitter Association, for most of June, the Arkansas River was raging between 4,000 and 6,200 cubic feet per second at the Parkdale gauge, so outfitters were steering clear of the Royal Gorge section above Canon City.
However, the numbers have dropped significantly. Flow is below the 2,400 cut-off and is more appropriate for commercial rafting.
