However, if you have a long weekend and are looking to get away, try one of these top 3 camping spots in Colorado in this three part series. From luxury cabins to secluded campsites, we explore the camping destinations in Colorado. Today, we look at desert camping in the Rocky Mountain State.
This Monument Canyon campsite is the only established camping in Monument. It sits at the west end of the 23-mile long scenic drive, spotted with steep red rock canyons and sandstone rock pillars. Just a short drive from Grand Junction, and offering stunning views of the valley, the 80 campsites fill quickly during summer and on holidays. Hundreds of miles of backcountry desert hiking trails are available for the outdoor enthusiast. Rock climbing and biking are also offered in the park. The park is open year-round, but reservations are only accepted from March to October. The campsites are $20 per night, plus an additional $10 park pass fee.
North Fruita Desert Campsites
Fruita Desert is located close to Grand Junction, Colorado. There are 35 individual campsites occupying about 40 acres. Campsites are $10 per site, per night. Each site contains a fire ring with grate and picnic table. Firewood must be provided by the camper. Dispersed camping is allowed outside the mountain bike trail system, but requires a portable toilet and portable fire pan to be used.
