Veterans Memorial Tunnel on I-70
After two long years of road work to widen the westbound bore, finally the Westbound Twin Tunnel on I-70 is completed!
Not only are we excited for the completion of this work, but also because this new mountain corridor gateway will now have a new name: Veterans Memorial Tunnel. There are many Veterans Memorials around the country, such as parks, halls, cemeteries and landmarks. Now, we’ll be proudly adding a tunnel to the list of such honorable places. Today we share with you the details of this event.

Ribbon Cutting Invite
The ribbon cutting ceremony was originally scheduled to take place on December 14th, at 11 a.m. Due to the weather forecast; it has now been postponed to a new date. Be on the lookout, as we sure will! The coming weather conditions have actually prompted the traffic shift to start today, Saturday December 13th. There will be several phases to this shift, starting at 5pm today. By the end of this first phase, there will be two lanes traveling the westbound tunnel. Lanes will be closed in some surrounding locations to be able to make the traffic shifts needed, so be patient while this change takes place. The Colorado Department of Transportation expects to finalize the traffic shit phases by Wednesday, December 17th.
How to get there
Here are the ways available to get to the new Veterans Memorial Tunnel.
From Denver: Take I-70 west to Exit 241B (just past where you cross under bridge). Cross over I-70 and take the first right and then an immediate left onto County Road 314. Go about 1/2 mile and continue forward at the stop sign at the top of the hill and follow event signage at the bottom of the hill directing a left turn onto the dirt road. Follow this dirt road along the creek and around to the parking area adjacent to I-70.
From the West: I-70 east to Exit 241A. Turn left onto County Road 314. Go about 1/2 mile and continue forward at the stop sign at the top of the hill and follow event signage at the bottom of the hill directing a left turn onto the dirt road. Follow this dirt road along the creek and around to the parking area adjacent to I-70.
