Located in Colorado’s northern Front Range, the Rocky Mountain National Park extends for over 260 thousand acres of beautiful mountain views, different climates and environments, such as wooded forests and mountain tundra. The park has many popular areas but the trails are certainly one of the park’s major attractions.
Let’s take a deeper look into this majestic National Park. Mile Hi Rafting Company, just 30 minutes from Denver, offers outdoor adventure for everyone in the family. We offer ATV and UTV tours and full overnight camping excursions, which take place in the breathtaking Rocky Mountain National Park.
Learning about the Rocky Mountain National Park
The park was only created about 100 years ago, in September 4, 1915. Nonetheless, it has been receiving visitors for the last 11,000 years. Ute and Arapaho Indians are just some of the earliest visitors to the park, but the list of people that followed them, as expeditioners and miners, is extensive. Gold mines, Great Depression camps, wildfires and floods due to heavy rains that forced the closing of the park are just some of the events that the park has experienced over its lifetime. This rich history along with impressive landscape, where 72 peaks higher than 12,000 feet and 359 miles of trails can be found, make this park such an attractive place to visit. Its best-known highest peak is located in Long Peaks, which reaches an elevation of 14, 259 feet.
An invitation to visit the park
The Rocky Mountain National Park is open 24 hours a day, year round. The busiest time of the year is summer, which makes fall a perfect and quiet time to visit. Even though there are no lodging accommodations in the park, there are many other possibilities found in the towns nearby or you can also opt to camp. It’s recommended to make a reservation beforehand. This park offers many activities for the outdoor enthusiasts, whether you enjoy hiking, camping, fishing, picnicking, horseback riding, photographing, birding, swimming or just wish to enjoy a day out in nature.
