Discovered in the 1700s, by Europeans, the gorge of the Black Canyon is renowned for its breathtaking scenery and wide range of activities. The gorge is made up by black walls that go up to 2,700 feet on a 53-mile narrow gorge. It holds some of the steepest cliffs, oldest rocks and craggiest spires in North America.

One of the best attractions of this park is the fact that you can choose from a wide range of activities for your recreational fun. Some of the activities to choose from are: auto-touring, wildlife viewing, camping, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, fishing, hiking, horseback riding, kayaking, stargazing, among others. There are different routes to the river that offer extremely strenuous hikes for a thrilling adventure. There is also hiking available along both the North and South Rims.
Black Canyon Seasons and Fees
There are three sections in this park: South Rim, North Rim and East Portal. All three areas are closed to vehicles during winter, but re-open now, in mid April. Entrance fee is $15.00 per vehicle or motorcycle at the South Rim entrance station and the North Rim ranger station of Black Canyon. It covers all persons in a single, private, noncommercial vehicle and is valid for seven calendar days. There is no fee charged for persons 16 years of age or younger. Also, you can get an Annual Pass for $30, that admits the holder of the pass along with all accompanying passengers in a single noncommercial vehicle to the park.
