First Day Hikes on January 1st

Part of the national campaign in “America’s State Parks”, Colorado Parks and Wild Life Organization offers free guided expeditions on January 1st, 2015 in 23 State Parks. The hikes are free but you need to purchase a vaild park entrance or possess a park pass to participate. This campaign is being held to promote a healthy lifestyle and to remind people of year-round recreation in the great outdoors. Annual park passes cost $70, which is a fairly reduced amount for such an extended access to the parks.

What to take?

Prepare yourself accordingly to unpredictable weather conditions, as winter can be surprising. It’s vital to keep yourself hydrated, so remember to take plenty water and to carry extra with you. Sun protection is also essential, so make sure to bring sun block, hats and chap stick. And lastly, remember to wear layers this winter. Dress accordingly to weather conditions. It might be recommended to bring snowshoes, strap-on ice cleats, snacks, trekking poles, cameras, binoculars and wildlife guidebooks in case of sightings.
