For some this adds to the experience, to others it may seem daunting. Today, we give you tips and recipes for easy to pack and easy to cook food while camping to make this the best experience possible! Learn what deliciousness you can make with just a pot of water and a fire!
Who says you can’t eat well while camping? A pot of water doesn’t sound like much other than weak soup. However, with a few tips and tricks learn what you can make with these two simple items!
You can make many variations of this dish. At home, pack your bow tie pasta in a ziplock bag with ¼ cup of sundried tomatoes. In a separate zip lock bag, include:
- 3 T. flour
- ½ t salt
- ½ C powdered milk
- 1 T parsley
- ½ t pepper
- ½ t. garlic powder
Grab a pot with 3 cups of water and begin to boil over the fire. Empty pasta and sun-dried tomatoes in the boiling water and cook till tender, according to package directions. Drain excess water, leaving ½ Cup in the pot. Empty the ziplock bag of spices. Add a can of chicken for added protein and sprinkle with parmesan cheese for additional optional flare. Enjoy! This pasta dish can be altered and varied according to your likes and dislikes. Add a can of spaghetti sauce for spaghetti, or add additional veggies for more flavor.
While at home, take a zip lock bag and break an egg into it. Add a little milk, salt and pepper. Scramble this concoction, add cheese if you will be eating the next day. At camp, bring a pot of water to boiling point. Drop in your ziplock bag, being sure to hold the bag away from the sides of the pot. After 3-4 minutes, remove your ziplock bag to reveal your scrambled eggs! Eat right out of the bag!
Over a Fire
The classic approach to dining while camping. Make ahead at home and the possibilities are endless! At home, spread out a piece of foil for each person. If you want an easy version, use precooked meat, so you won’t have to worry about cooking all the way through. Toss your ingredients in the center of foil squares. Try these options below:
- Cubed Chicken
- Beef Strips
- Cubed Onions
- Bell Peppers
Drizzle with marinade or oil and add any spices you may like. When you arrive at your campsite, build a fire and let it burn down to coals as you set up camp. Place your packets in the coals and let cook!
