The trees will be in their prime for about a week in most places. The best way to plan your day trip is to set aside the day you will go first, then as the date approaches select areas that are best for color. Peak to Peak Scenic Byway

This 55 mile route is the oldest Scenic Byway in Colorado. A perfect day trip from Denver, this route begins in Central City, 45 minutes from Denver, and runs north to Estes Park along Colorado State Highway 72 and 7. The entire drive takes about 2 hours. You will see a dazzle of colors from gold, yellow, orange, green, red and brown. Along with the brilliant colors, you will take in views of Indian Peak, Longs Peak and the mountain towns of Estes Park, Nederland and Black Hawk.

Guanella Pass Scenic Byway

On this route, you will see some of the most stunning scenery in Colorado! Just 45 minutes from Denver, the byway will take you through the historic German town, Georgetown. Once in Georgetown, you will be directed through traffic signs towards Guanella Pass. Take the pass south out of town. Once you reach the town of Grant, turn right on US 285 and drive 15 minutes to Kenosha Pass. Bring the camera on this day trip, you’ll need it!
