When it comes to picnics, there are two types of people: the ones that have all the gear, including everything you can possibly imagine for picnics, and the ones that have nothing and stick with disposable china and cheap wine.
Preparing the Perfect Picnic
Maybe you have tons of experience preparing picnics, and maybe you don’t. Having a guide can be super helpful, especially if you’re out of ideas. Whether you’re planning a simple picnic at the park or taking a hike into the wilderness and having a picnic in the middle of the great outdoors, here are some tips to plan a slightly fancier picnic while staying budget-friendly.
Never Forget the Soft Blanket
You’ll be seated on the ground, so you want to make sure you’re as comfortable as possible. Bring a soft blanket, preferably in a lighter color so that you can sit comfortably without it getting too warm, which is what happens with darker colors. If it’s rainy outside, you may even consider bring along a shower curtain to put between the grass and the blanket so you can keep it from getting wet.
Keep Food Simple But Delicious
No need for a fancy spread. You can prepare delicious food without all the hassle. A great option is to stop by the deli and get some sliced ham, prosciutto, or other protein, some cheese, and some fruit. Get some nice bread to pair that with and you’re good to go.
Pack Plenty of Water
Staying hydrated is important, so even if you’re bringing wine and other drinks, don’t neglect the water.
Bring Some Wine and Keep It Cold
Wherever you’re going, so is your cooler and plenty of ice. You want to keep your wine cold so that when you pop the bottle, it’s as refreshing as you thought it would be.
At this point, we know better than to not clean up after ourselves. However, since you’re going to be outdoors and the weather can be kind of unpredictable, pack biodegradable plates and utensils in case you drop something or it gets blown away by the wind.
