We present you with a list of most frequently spotted wildlife in this area, so keep your eyes peeled for these below!
If you spot this, count yourself one lucky adventurer. This is Colorado’s official mammal. Colorado is home to the largest population of Bighorn Sheep anywhere.
The Mountain Goat
Almost like the moose, the mountain goat was introduced to Colorado in 1947 just to expand hunting opportunities. With shaggy white wool coats and black horns, these are distinctively beautiful animals. You will see these mostly in high mountainous regions, they seldom travel below the treeline.
There are two types of deer in Colorado, the Mule deer and White Tailed deer. The deer in Clear Creek Country are Mule deer. Mule deer bound with stiff legs, and tail held down, while white tail deer move more gracefully, with tail held up.
Most familiar of animals, these are the largest of Colorado’s carnivores. Despite their name, they can also be light brown, or even blond in color.
Sounds much scarier than the actual fuzzy little animals they appear to be. Wolverines are typically three feet long, with a short tail. A type of weasel, they are the heaviest, weighing in at 20-30 pounds or more! Their fur is dark brown to balck, and the sides have a yellowish brown to whitish stripe.
The most popular of animals, raccoons need no introduction. With a black mask type face, and ringed bushy tail, these little creatures are easily spottable!
The cutest of all little creatures, Colorado is home to five species. The most widespread chipmunk in this area of Colorado is the Least Chipmunk. Lively and friendly, they will likely beg food from picnics. Keep your eye out for these cuties and an eye on your food when they come around!
